Columbia River Sturgeon fishing, Cowlitz River, Washington fishing guide

The government has a web site for watching the fish counts as different species go over the dam. As you will notice after reviewing different years of the fish counts Salmon and Steelhead do not always arrive at exactly the same day each year. When I book trips I will keep an eye on the Salmon and Steelhead that are going through the fish ladder to get an idea of when the run will hit it’s peak. I fish below Bonneville dam and thus spend the majority of time watching the counts at this dam. If you would like to see the counts of any dam on the Columbia river please go to: https://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/fishdata/

From this site you can get daily totals, year to date, or annual running totals. The data base goes back five years to give you an idea of what kind of pattern the fish have.

The Columbia river is a great river to fish for multiple species. Salmon, Sturgeon, Steelhead, and Walleye all bite at different times of the year. During the fall Salmon run we have many days where we catch Salmon and Sturgeon in the same spot. If you are new to river fishing I would highly recommend going with a guide. We can teach you how to safely navigate and anchor in the swift river.
